When Shawn started teaching himself to code, he was already working for the State of Nevada — standing in front of classrooms at the peace officer academy, teaching law, policy and procedures, and defensive tactics. Most people in that role stayed in that lane. Shawn used the hours outside the classroom to sit down with documentation and figure out how the internet actually worked.
Long before courses were a click away, he pushed forward with documentation, trial and error, and sheer persistence — and taught himself to write code from scratch. Not just front-end prettiness, but the real infrastructure: setting up and operating his own servers, managing DNS, configuring hosting environments, and understanding the stack from bare metal up.

The Expedia Insight That Started It All — Selling Without Owning
In 1996 — while still teaching at the academy for the State of Nevada — a brand-new company called Expedia introduced a concept that stopped Shawn cold: sell hotel rooms online without owning a single one. The inventory already existed. What was missing was the distribution layer — and the internet made that layer possible for the first time. Most people saw a travel company. Shawn saw a business model.
He applied that exact logic to Las Vegas Weddings (LVWC.com). The chapels already existed. The couples were already searching. What the industry lacked was a centralized online presence that let people browse, compare, and book Las Vegas wedding chapels without picking up the phone or walking the Strip. Shawn built that — becoming one of the first to sell Las Vegas weddings online by partnering with the existing chapels and putting their offerings in front of a national audience.
